“Despite us freelancers doing what we love and we’re creating things and it’s our passion, at the end of the day, we’re still putting in a lot of time and energy. And it’s still work. And so because it’s our own passion and our own work, we tend to validate that at a lower rate than we should have because we’re so critical but there needs to be more conversations about how we need to empower ourselves to really value our work where it needs to be.”
Kim Nguyen is an incredible artist based in San Diego who specializes in watercolor, calligraphy and creating artwork that speaks to her soul. She shares her story of how she took the leap from her corporate marketing career to fully dive in as a freelance artist. Though she’s gone through her struggles, she has shared some useful tips and tricks to help those seeking a more fulfilled life of pursuing what you love. We dig deep in uncovering the value of artists and their work, why the “starving artist” stigma needs to end, and why we need to be more empowering and transparent when talking about our value.
